National Federation of Press Women Recognizes 20 Top Virginia Communicators

Kim Loehr Wins Second Place in Sweepstakes Prize

KimHeadsht3smallKudos to all of the Virginia Professional Communicators who received communication awards at the National Federation of Press Women’s annual communications conference held Sept. 10-11 in Anchorage, AK. 

Kimberly Loehr with the Lightening Protection Institute, Richmond, VA., won second-place in the 2015 sweepstakes, winning a $150 cash prize. The contest entrants accumulating the most points (based on the number of their winning entries and the number of competing entries in those categories) are named recipients of cash awards.

This year, the NFPW presented 20 VPC members with 35 awards for excellence in communications. VPC members received nine first-place awards, nine second-place awards, eight third-place awards and nine honorable mentions. Two first-place awards were filed jointly and shared by two members. All NFPW award recipients were first-place winners in the VPC communications competition and advanced to the national competition.

Sue Bland, Ashland – Honorable Mention: Feature story – Online publication.

Ellen Brown, Richmond – Second: Feature story – Magazine, newsletter, or other non- newspaper print publication.

Katherine Calos, Richmond – First: Specialty articles – History; Honorable Mention:  Feature story – Print-ibased newspaper; 

Katherine Calos and Graham Moomaw, Richmond – Second: News Story – Print- based Newspaper.

Frances Crutchfield, Midlothian – Second: Speeches.

Hannah Davis, Farmville – Second: Single photograph – Sports photo.

Paul Fletcher, Richmond –Honorable Mention: Columns – General.

Sarah Honenberger, Richmond – Third: Novels for adult readers.

Cathy Jett, Fredericksburg – First: Specialty articles – Agriculture, Agribusiness, Aquaculture.

Kimberly Loehr, Richmond – First: Community, institutional, or internal relations; News or feature releases – multiple releases; News or feature releases – multiple releases; Second: Social Media Campaign – Nonprofit, government, or educational; Third: Blogs – Nonprofit, government, or educational.
