Virginia Professional Communicators

Nominations due June 1 for 2015 Newsmaker of the Year

VPC’s Newsmaker Award is annually given to a nominee who has made significant news in the past year or throughout their career. The nominee should be either from an under-represented group, such as women, minorities, LGBT persons or people with disabilities, OR someone who has served an under-represented group through their vocation.

The nominee will be judged on the basis of newsworthiness, public service, personal sacrifice, risk-taking and/or inspiration to others. The nominee must either live in Virginia or have spent part of their life in Virginia. The recipient must be available to accept the award in person and to make remarks at our fall meeting.

Only VPC members may nominate candidates for Newsmaker. Don’t delay!  Send a brief summary of the reasons you feel your nominee is worthy – along with copies, scans or links to substantiating news-clips – to Steger4@Verizon.net or, via postal mail, to Martha Steger, 13617 Twin Team Lane, Midlothian, VA 23113-3713.

Submission of a name is not sufficient:  the rationale for a nominee can be brief, but it must be submitted in writing along with the name. Names submitted without substantiation will be invalid and won’t be considered.

See suggested form below for nominations. One of the great satisfactions of VPC membership is seeing deserving people recognized for the work they have done and continue to. Take time now to see that a deserving person is recognized!
