Setting Intentions for 2019<\/strong>

\n\"\"F-words were abundant during a recent VPC networking event.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t be alarmed, though. Members weren\u2019t resorting to foul language. Instead they were sharing their words of the year that would inspire them.<\/p>\n

Michele Cook\u2019s f-word is focus<\/em>. \u201cI get bored very quickly.\u201d She plans to focus on finishing her book and finding an agent, as well as completing the marketing and branding for her farm.<\/p>\n

Patty Kruszewski\u2019s f-phrase is follow through<\/em>, which she said is similar to focus. \u201cI need to finish what I start,\u201d she said, and that, too, includes completing a book\u2014or two.<\/p>\n

Pam Stallsmith\u2019s word is flow<\/em>. She said she wants her energy to flow in a positive direction.<\/p>\n

Martha Steger\u2019s word is fiction<\/em>. She is tired of writing non-fiction but finds it easy to grab the low-hanging fruit, which for her is writing more non-fiction. This year she is going to focus on fiction.<\/p>\n

Not all words started with the letter \u201cF.\u201d<\/p>\n

Julie Campbell, who recently retired from Washington & Lee, said her word is reinvention<\/em>. \u201cI don\u2019t know what I want to be when I grow up.\u201d She recently moved back to Richmond and is working to define the next chapter of her life.<\/p>\n

Sunni Brown\u2019s word is embrace<\/em>. \u201cI don\u2019t always need to chase the next shiny thing,\u201d she said. \u201cI want to embrace what I know and dig deeper.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gwen Woolf is focused on stretch<\/em>, which has multiple meanings, including stretching for exercise and stretching to find new writing opportunities.<\/p>\n

Nancy Beasley\u2019s word is abstinence<\/em>. She said she is going to abstain from being critical. \u201cI\u2019m also going to abstain from people who make me uncomfortable, and that includes family!\u201d<\/p>\n
