{"id":2286,"date":"2019-09-19T16:32:25","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T20:32:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vapc.org\/?p=2286"},"modified":"2019-09-20T21:58:10","modified_gmt":"2019-09-21T01:58:10","slug":"bidding-on-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vapc.org\/vapc\/bidding-on-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Bidding on Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Pamela Stallsmith, VPWF Presiden<\/em>t<\/p>\n<p>The Virginia Press Women Foundation\u2019s first online auction to support the Agnes Cooke Scholarship was a smashing success, thanks to the generosity of VPC members.<\/p>\n<p>We raised $1,215 <em>\u2014<\/em> more than enough to cover the cost of our annual $1,000 scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>Every year we hold an auction at the spring conference to raise money for the Agnes Cooke Scholarship, which benefits a Virginia undergraduate or graduate student who wishes to pursue a career in communications.<\/p>\n<p>This year, VPW Foundation Secretary Gail Kent led the effort to hold a virtual auction and expose our offerings and message to a greater audience. She did an outstanding job organizing this venture and teaching fellow board members how to manage the auction.<\/p>\n<p>We wish to thank our generous contributors who donated the auction\u2019s beautiful items:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Martha Steger<\/strong>: Garth Newel Music Center mountain music getaway<\/li>\n<li><strong>Craddock Terry Hotel<\/strong> in Lynchburg: one-night stay<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chincoteague Island Vacation Rentals<\/strong>: weeklong cabin rental<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cathy Jett:<\/strong> Handmade smoky quartz jewelry<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chincoteague Comfort Inn<\/strong> (a late-breaking donation): two nights<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thanks to your continued generosity, VPW Foundation is able to continue helping prepare tomorrow\u2019s communicators.
