Spring Event Kicks Off With Breakfast, Networking

in Events

We’re shaking things up a bit with this year’s spring conference. Yes, it’s still in the spring. And we’re still at the University of Richmond. But instead of capping off the day, April 27, with a luncheon, we kicking off the day with breakfast and networking. Sign up today!

During our January meeting we discovered that we enjoyed learning about each other through networking events. So we’re bringing back the networking in a condensed form to kick off the spring meeting. We’ll network over breakfast, which will include donuts, yogurt parfaits, and fruit. We’ll also have plenty of coffee. As a bonus, we are keeping costs low (a bargain $25) by offering this simple breakfast.

Our members told us they wanted to learn more about the digital landscape so we’ve invited two professionals to share how they use social media to engage their audiences. Jennifer Guild, manager of Communications and Curiosity at the Science Museum of Virginia, and Nicole Hansen, communications coordinator for the University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business, will share what has worked for them, what hasn’t worked so well, and what they see trending. Our awards often feel rushed, and this year we decided to limit the number of workshops and have more time to celebrate our award recipients. The VPW Foundation will announce its scholarship recipient. We’ll also announce our Newsmaker and Communicator of Achievement winners. And we’ll celebrate everyone who has placed in the communications contest.

For those who want to continue the celebrating or networking, we’ll wrap in time for lunch. We hope many of you will want to continue the conversation at an area restaurant or by taking a walk around the lake at UR.

The board will meet immediately following the awards presentations.
