Virginia Professional Communicators

VPW Foundation

The Virginia Press Women Foundation is a 501(c)3 corporation with the purpose of administering and raising money for college scholarships. The VPW Foundation offers an annual scholarship to a deserving undergraduate or graduate student who either lives in Virginia or attends a college or university in the state and who’s interested in pursuing a career in communications.

The Agnes Cooke Scholarship Program is open to female and male students. It’s named in honor of Agnes Cooke of Kinsale, Va., who was a charter member of what was then Virginia Press Women and served as president from 1964 to 1966. She was well known in the Northern Neck of Virginia for the columns she wrote for 25 years chronicling the everyday events in her community. The foundation that now administers the scholarships was created in 1992.
