Navigating Social Media

in Events

When we’re not celebrating our award winners at the spring conference, we’ll hear from two area social media mavens.

Jennifer Guild and Nicole Hansen both have extensive experience navigating the ever-changing digital landscape. They’ll celebrate their successes with us and warn us about what not to do. We’ll leave plenty of time for questions and answers, too.

Jennifer Guild, APR, didn’t start her career with the goal of working in the museum field, but as she’s now in her third museum communications role, clearly she’s found her niche. Guild has been manager of Communications and Curiosity at the Science Museum of Virginia since August 2017. She previously worked at Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier and Virginia Historical Society. After a multi-year stint at the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control where she assisted with media relations, social media, a website overhaul and an intranet rollout, she jumped back into the museum world. Guild enjoys promoting the organization’s quirky exhibits, events and content through social media and media relations. Guild is a member of PRSA Richmond, serving on the board for eight years, including as president in 2017. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2004 with a degree in mass communications, and earned her Accreditation in Public Relations in 2016.

Nicole Hansen is the communications coordinator for the University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business. She handles the school’s social media channels and writes its monthly newsletters. She wears many hats in the Richmond social media market, including as a freelance social media video editor for Feedback LLC, manager of the social media channels for the Richmond Chapter of the American Marketing Association, and manager of social media channels for ACEC Virginia. She is a former television news reporter and a graduate of Elon University.
