VPC member Julie Campbell was elected president of the board of directors of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) on Saturday night at the organization’s annual conference in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Julie has been a member of VPC and NFPW for more than 25 years, and she has a distinguished history with the organization. She served as president of VPC from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2017 to 2018. In 2014, she was selected as VPC’s Communicator of the Year.

“I have gotten so much from this organization, professional development as well as delightful friendships,” Julie said. “My fellow board members are thoughtful and dedicated. Thanks, NFPW, for your confidence in us.”

In addition to her achievements with VPC and NFPW, Julie is an award-winning freelance writer, editor and author who has written two books. Her first book, “Studies in Arizona History,” was published in 1998. Her second, “The Horse in Virginia: An Illustrated History,” won the People’s Choice Award for Nonfiction at the Library of Virginia’s 14th Annual Literary Awards.

Julie previously held positions at Washington and Lee University, where she was the associate director of communications and public affairs, and at the Library of Virginia, where she was the editor of Virginia Cavalcade.

Julie will be the third Virginian to serve as president of NFPW: Cynthia Price was president from 2009 to 2011 and Ulrich Troubetzkoy held the post from 1967 to 1969.
