VMHC 2023 Tour Recap
A walk through Virginia’s history
By Pam Stallsmith
VPC members and guests enjoyed an enthralling tour of the newly renovated Virginia Museum of History & Culture on April 16. VMHC, formerly known as the Virginia Historical Society, is the oldest cultural institution in the state, founded in 1831.
VMHC houses more than nine million pieces (not all of which are on display) and tells the story of the commonwealth and its special role in American history.
Maggie Creech, the museum’s director of education, guided us on the engaging hour-long tour. A special highlight was admiring the folk-art exhibit of longtime member Ann Oppenhimer and her husband William. We also enjoyed seeing the new exhibition, “Apollo: When We Went to the Moon.”
